🇺🇸UNITED STATES🇧🇷BRAZILUS-BR Do United States passport holders need a visa to visit Brazil?
U.S. ordinary passport holders need a Brazil eVisa for tourism. Apply online before travel via the official VFS Global portal; the fee is USD 80.90 and the visa is valid 10 years for multiple entries. Brazil reinstated visa requirements for U.S. citizens effective April 10, 2025, ending the previous visa-free arrangement. As of 2026 this is a permanent electronic visa (eVisa) program. U.S. ordinary passport holders traveling for tourism must obtain the eVisa online before departure through the only authorized portal, brazil.vfsevisa.com (operated by VFS Global). The tourist eVisa costs USD 80.90 (USD 80.00 consular fee plus a USD 0.90 service fee), is normally valid for 10 years with multiple entries, and permits stays of up to 90 days per entry — extendable once for a further 90 days — without exceeding 180 days within any 12-month period. Processing typically takes up to 5 business days, so applying at least two weeks ahead of travel is recommended. There is no visa-on-arrival and no embassy interview for the tourist eVisa; the entire process is online. Note that Brazil is also rolling out new VAT and local tourist taxes in 2026 that may raise on-the-ground costs but do not change the visa process itself.
