🇹🇼Taiwan (Chinese Taipei)🇧🇹BhutanTW-BT Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) to Bhutan visa requirements
A Taiwan ordinary passport holder needs an e-visa (online travel permit) to visit Bhutan. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel. You apply online before travel, pay a one-time US$40 visa fee, and must also pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100 per person per night for the entire stay. Bhutan does not grant visa-free entry to Taiwan passport holders. Only India, Bangladesh and the Maldives are visa-exempt (and those are regional permit arrangements). Everyone else, including Taiwan ordinary passport holders, must obtain a Bhutan e-visa before arrival through the official Department of Immigration portal (immi.gov.bt) or via a licensed Bhutanese tour operator/hotel acting on the traveler's behalf. The application requires a digital passport copy (valid at least 6 months), a passport-style photo, travel dates, and payment of the non-refundable US$40 visa application fee. Crucially, every tourist must also pay Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100 per person per night, which is the largest cost component and reflects Bhutan's "High Value, Low Volume" tourism policy; the US$100 rate is in effect through 31 August 2027. Applications are typically processed within five working days, after which an approved visa clearance letter is issued; the visa is stamped on arrival at Paro International Airport or a land border. The permitted stay can extend up to 90 days, subject to the dates and SDF paid. Children aged 6-11 receive a 50% SDF discount and those 5 and under are exempt. Bhutan is in South Asia and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen and ETIAS rules do not apply.
