Singapore to Sri Lanka visa requirements

Singapore (ordinary) passport holders should obtain a free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online before flying to Sri Lanka for tourism. As of 25 May 2026 the ETA is free of charge for Singapore citizens, allows a 30-day stay with double entry, and is approved within 24-72 hours. Sri Lanka operates a mandatory ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) system for short tourist visits. Although Singapore historically enjoyed a bilateral reciprocity arrangement and a visa-on-arrival channel, the current and most reliable route is the free online ETA. Effective 25 May 2026, Sri Lanka waived the ETA fee for tourists from 40+ countries, and the Maldives, Seychelles and Singapore are also covered by the free-ETA benefit. Importantly, this is not a full visa waiver: the Department of Immigration & Emigration states that travelers, including those from reciprocity-agreement countries, should still apply for the ETA before arrival for smooth, queue-free entry. The tourist ETA grants a stay of up to 30 days from the date of arrival, permits double entry during its validity, and is generally approved within 24 to 72 hours. Visa-on-arrival remains a backup option at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), but applying online in advance is recommended to avoid long queues. Travelers must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months, a confirmed onward/return ticket, proof of sufficient funds, and complete any required online arrival declaration. Stays beyond 30 days can be extended through the immigration department or the ETA portal for a fee. Because some sources still describe Singapore as fully ETA-exempt while the official portal indicates an ETA should be obtained, the conservative and safest course is to secure the free ETA before departure.
