Russian Federation to South Korea visa requirements

Russian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in South Korea (up to 60 days under the 2014 bilateral visa-waiver agreement), but they MUST obtain a K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) online before boarding, because Russia is not on the list of countries temporarily exempted from K-ETA. South Korea and Russia have a bilateral visa-waiver agreement (effective 1 January 2014) that lets ordinary passport holders of each country stay visa-free for up to 60 days per visit, capped at 90 days within any 180-day period. South Korea is NOT in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply here. However, since 1 September 2021 South Korea operates the K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) for visa-free travelers. While 67 countries/territories are temporarily EXEMPT from K-ETA (exemption extended through 31 December 2026), Russia is NOT on that exemption list. As a result, a Russian national must apply for and receive an approved K-ETA before departure to enter visa-free. The K-ETA is applied for online at the official portal k-eta.go.kr (or the K-ETA app), costs about 10,000 KRW plus a separate online payment/processing fee, is normally processed within 72 hours, allows multiple entries, and is valid for up to 3 years (or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner). Travelers should also complete the e-Arrival Card before arrival. Because the verdict hinges on a no-visa channel that still requires a mandatory pre-travel authorization, the correct best-fit category is "eta" rather than "visa-free".
