Malaysia to United States visa requirements

Visa required for most U.S. visits. B1/B2 visitor visa, USD 185; Malaysia is not in the Visa Waiver Program. Guam/CNMI have a separate 45-day G-CNMI route. Malaysian ordinary passport holders need a U.S. visa for tourism or business travel to the 50 states, Washington DC, and most U.S. destinations because Malaysia is not a Visa Waiver Program (VWP) country. The usual visitor route is a B1/B2 visa: the MRV application fee is USD 185, Malaysia's reciprocity table lists no separate issuance fee, and B1/B2 visas are listed as multiple-entry with 120-month validity. Each admission is decided by CBP at the port of entry; a B visitor stay can be up to 6 months, and the I-94/admission record controls the allowed stay. Malaysia is listed in CBP's six-month passport-validity exemption list, so a Malaysian passport needs to be valid for the intended U.S. stay rather than 6 months beyond it, though renewing early still avoids airline and document issues. State's Global Visa Wait Times table last updated 18 June 2026 showed Kuala Lumpur B1/B2 next available appointments at under half a month; wait times can change and administrative processing or passport return adds time. B1/B2 renewal interview waivers are now limited to eligible applicants renewing within 12 months of the prior full-validity visa's expiration. For travel only to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands, eligible Malaysian passport holders may instead use the Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program/G-CNMI ETA for stays of 45 days or less.
