Malaysia to Japan visa requirements

Visa-free for up to 90 days for Malaysian ordinary ePassport holders. Visit Japan Web is optional, but its current unified QR code can cover immigration and customs. Malaysian ordinary passport holders may enter Japan visa-free for a short-term stay of up to 90 days for tourism, transit, business meetings, or visiting friends and relatives, but the exemption is conditional on holding an ICAO-compliant biometric passport (ePassport). The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia states that Malaysian passports issued by Malaysia or its missions abroad have been ICAO-compliant since the end of January 2017, while non-ePassport or Malaysia C.I. passport holders should obtain a visa before travel. Japan has no general six-month passport-validity rule: the passport should be valid throughout the stay, and travelers should keep blank visa/stamp pages available. Visit Japan Web registration is not mandatory, but it is the official online service for arrival procedures; the current flow displays a unified QR code for immigration clearance and customs declaration. Paper arrival/customs forms remain the fallback. Stays over 90 days, remunerated work, study, training such as JICA/AOTS, or other long-term purposes require the correct visa, normally with a Certificate of Eligibility, before entering Japan.
