Malaysia to Laos visa requirements

No visa needed. Malaysian ordinary passport holders can enter Laos visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism under the ASEAN reciprocal visa-exemption arrangement. Malaysia and Laos are both ASEAN member states, and under the ASEAN reciprocal visa-exemption arrangement, holders of ordinary Malaysian passports may enter Laos without a visa for tourism or short business stays of up to 30 days. No advance application, fee, or visa-on-arrival is required for a short tourist visit; travelers are simply stamped in at the port of entry. You need a passport valid for at least six months with a blank page, and ideally proof of onward or return travel and sufficient funds, although these are rarely checked. The 30-day visa-free period cannot normally be matched by Lao immigration to longer needs at the desk; if you intend to stay longer than 30 days, you should instead obtain a Lao eVisa (via the official laoevisa.gov.la portal) or a visa on arrival, which permits a 30-day stay extendable in-country. As of mid-2026 there have been no changes removing the ASEAN visa-free privilege for Malaysians, so visa-free remains the correct channel for a standard short visit.
