Malaysia to Iraq visa requirements

Malaysian ordinary passport holders can obtain a Visit visa on arrival in Iraq. The Iraqi Ministry of Interior approved granting visit visas to Malaysian passport holders at all points of entry (airports and land borders) effective 11 September 2024, allowing a short tourist stay of up to 30 days. No advance eVisa or embassy visa is required. Iraq grants Malaysian ordinary passport holders a Visit visa on arrival, confirmed by an official announcement from the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Kuala Lumpur stating that, with the approval of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, Malaysian passport holders receive visit-type visas at points of entry (airports and land borders) starting 11 September 2024. This places Malaysia in a small group of nationalities (alongside Iran, Lebanon and limited Turkish travelers) with facilitated land/air entry, rather than the 37 mostly Western/Asian nationalities (Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, UK, US, EU states, etc.) who, since 1 March 2025, must obtain Iraq's electronic eVisa in advance. Malaysia is NOT on that eVisa list. The standard permitted stay is 30 days for a single visit. Note that Iraq is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Travelers should carry a passport valid for at least 6 months, proof of onward travel, accommodation details and sufficient funds, as immigration officers retain discretion. Important safety caveat: the Malaysian government advises citizens against non-essential travel to Iraq due to security conditions, and entry rules for the Kurdistan Region (Erbil/Sulaymaniyah) are administered separately from federal Iraq. Anyone who has an Israeli stamp or has visited Israel should be aware Israel-related entries are sensitive, and Israeli nationals are banned outright.
