Malaysia to Canada visa requirements

As of 26 May 2026, eligible Malaysian ordinary passport holders can apply for a low-cost eTA for air travel to Canada; those who do not qualify still need a visitor visa (TRV). Canada classifies Malaysia as a partially visa-required country. Effective 26 May 2026, under Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy, Malaysian citizens who have either held a Canadian temporary resident visa (TRV) at any time in the past 10 years OR currently hold a valid United States non-immigrant visa may apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) instead of a visitor visa. The eTA costs CAD 7, is usually approved within minutes, is valid up to 5 years (or until the passport expires), and allows visits of up to 6 months per entry. Critically, the eTA is only valid for arriving in or transiting Canada BY AIR; travelers entering by land, bus, train, or sea still need a visitor visa. Malaysians who meet neither eligibility condition must apply for a temporary resident (visitor) visa, which costs CAD 100 plus a CAD 85 biometrics fee and can take several weeks to months.
