South Korea to Hungary visa requirements

South Korean ordinary passport holders can travel to Hungary visa-free for short tourist stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the Schengen short-stay rules. No visa is required as of 2026-06-01. ETIAS (a EUR 20 online travel authorisation) is not yet in force; it is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026, so it is not required for trips before then. Hungary is a member of the EU and the Schengen Area. South Korean nationals holding an ordinary passport enjoy visa-free access to the entire Schengen Area, including Hungary, for stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period for tourism, business, family visits, or transit. This is the standard Schengen visa-waiver arrangement that applies to all visa-exempt third-country nationals. Uniquely, South Korea also holds a bilateral visa-waiver agreement with Hungary that, according to the Korean Embassy in Budapest (MOFA), can allow an additional period of up to 90 days of stay within Hungary itself after the Schengen 90 days are exhausted (subject to strict conditions: no travel to other Schengen states during the extension, no gainful activity, and exit must be made from Hungary to a non-Schengen country). For ordinary tourism, the relevant rule is simply the Schengen 90/180 limit, with no advance application needed. The new ETIAS travel authorisation (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is scheduled to go live in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional grace period; once mandatory, visa-exempt travellers including South Koreans will need an approved ETIAS (EUR 20, valid 3 years) before boarding. As of 2026-06-01, ETIAS is NOT yet required, and the separate Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric border registration became fully operational on 10 April 2026, meaning travellers' entry/exit is now recorded electronically at the Schengen external border. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the last 10 years.
