Japan to Djibouti visa requirements

Japanese passport holders need a visa for Djibouti and should obtain an eVisa online before travel via the official government portal (evisa.gouv.dj). A short-stay tourist eVisa allows up to 90 days, single entry, and is presented on arrival at Ambouli International Airport, Djibouti City. Djibouti is not visa-free for Japanese (JP) ordinary passport holders. Since 18 February 2018 the Djibouti government has operated an electronic visa (eVisa) system that replaced the old paper visa-on-arrival regime for most ordinary travelers. Japanese citizens apply entirely online at the official portal evisa.gouv.dj, upload a passport scan and photo, pay by card, and receive an emailed approval to print and present at the border. The tourist eVisa is single entry and permits short stays of 15-90 days; a separate transit eVisa covers 1-14 days. The eVisa is accepted at Ambouli International Airport and recognized legal border crossings. While some references still mention a visa on arrival, the Djibouti government officially lists VOA only for diplomatic, official and service passport holders, so ordinary tourists should treat the eVisa as the reliable, required channel and apply before departure. Official government fees are modest (roughly USD 12 for transit, USD 23 for the 15-90 day short stay), though third-party agency sites quote substantially higher service-inclusive prices; travelers save money by using the official site directly. Passports must be valid at least six months beyond the intended departure date. Djibouti is in East Africa (Horn of Africa) and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen/ETIAS rules do not apply.
