Japan to Burundi visa requirements

A Japanese ordinary passport holder needs a visa for Burundi. The recommended option is the official online eVisa from Burundi's General Commissariat for Migration (migration.gov.bi). Visa on arrival is also available at Bujumbura airport and land borders, but the eVisa is more reliable. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travelers. Japan is not on Burundi's visa-exempt list (which covers only East African Community members: DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda). Japanese tourists must therefore obtain a visa. Burundi operates an official online visa system through the General Commissariat for Migration (migration.gov.bi), where applicants upload a passport bio page, yellow fever certificate, and itinerary, pay in USD or EUR, and typically receive approval within about 3 working days. A single-entry visa costs USD 40 and allows a stay of up to 30 days; a multiple-entry visa costs USD 90 (1 month) with longer 2- and 3-month options at USD 180 and USD 270. Visa on arrival is available at Bujumbura International Airport (Melchior Ndadaye) and at land borders for stays up to one month, but securing the eVisa in advance is the safer route. A valid International Certificate of Vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory; the original card must have been issued at least 10 days before travel. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months. Travelers should print two copies of the approved visa (one for entry, one for exit) and verify current details directly with the official migration portal before departure, as fees and procedures can change.
