Japan to Burkina Faso visa requirements

Japanese passport holders need a visa for Burkina Faso. Japan is not visa-exempt and not on the visa-on-arrival list, so the correct route is the official eVisa applied for online before travel. A Japanese ordinary passport holder cannot enter Burkina Faso visa-free. Japan is not among the roughly 19 visa-exempt nationalities (mainly ECOWAS members plus a handful of others such as Morocco, the UAE, Singapore and Hong Kong), and it is not on the visa-on-arrival list, which Burkina Faso now applies only in exceptional circumstances. Since the launch of the official eVisa system on 17 August 2023, the recommended and standard route for Japanese tourists is the eVisa obtained through the government portal (visaburkina.bf / applicant.visaburkina.bf) before departure. The short-term (tourism) eVisa allows a stay of up to 90 days, issued for single or multiple entries, with a validity of up to 90 days. The official tourist fee is 33,000 CFA francs for single entry (55,000 CFA for multiple entries), payable online, with a hotel reservation required. Applicants also need a passport valid for the stay, a recent photo, a medical certificate, health insurance and proof of accommodation. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry. Travelers should note that Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains a high-level travel advisory urging citizens to avoid all travel to Burkina Faso due to the security situation; an eVisa does not override that advisory.
