Japan to Azerbaijan visa requirements
Japanese passport holders need a visa for Azerbaijan, but they enjoy a special privilege: a free single-entry visa-on-arrival (up to 30 days) at all international airports, or an online ASAN e-visa. Japan is one of the few nationalities exempt from the visa fee. A Japanese ordinary passport holder is not visa-free for Azerbaijan, but enjoys highly favorable terms. Since February 1, 2016, Japanese citizens can obtain a single-entry visa on arrival (30-day stay) at all international airports of Azerbaijan, and Japan is among the limited nationalities exempt from the visa fee, making entry effectively free. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the visa's expiry. Azerbaijan is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. For a short tourist stay, the recommended channel is the free visa-on-arrival at international airports; pre-arranging an e-visa is advisable for travelers who want documentation secured before departure or who arrive at land borders where VOA may not be available.
