Q: Is there a Syrian eVisa I can apply for online?

An eVisa portal (evisa.sy) has been announced as 'coming soon' but is not currently operational. For now, visa on arrival is the practical option for most travelers.

Q: How much is the visa and how do I pay?

Around USD 75 for single entry (USD 110 double, USD 150 multiple). It must be paid in US dollars cash. ATMs and foreign credit cards generally do not work in Syria, so bring enough cash.

Q: Can I be refused entry because of an Israeli stamp?

Yes. If your passport shows any travel to Israel, or you hold Israeli nationality, you will be refused entry to Syria under all circumstances.

Q: Do I still need a tour operator to arrange my visa?

Under current rules most EU nationals no longer need a pre-arranged security clearance and can get the visa on arrival. Some travelers still use a licensed operator for added certainty, with processing of 3 days to about a week.

Italian (ordinary passport) tourists can obtain a visa on arrival in Syria, typically valid for a 30-day stay, paid in USD cash at the airport or land border. Note: a "Do Not Travel" advisory applies and conditions change rapidly. Since the change of government in January 2025, Syria offers visa on arrival (VOA) to EU/EFTA nationals, including Italian ordinary passport holders, at Damascus and Aleppo airports and at open land borders (e.g. from Lebanon and Jordan). EU citizens generally receive a 30-day single-entry visa for around USD 75, payable in US dollars cash on arrival. Pre-arrangement through a tour operator is no longer mandatory for most nationalities, though the situation remains fluid: an "eVisa" portal (evisa.sy) has been announced as "coming soon" but is not yet operational, and flights and borders have been disrupted at times during 2026. Review Italy's Viaggiare Sicuri (Farnesina) and other advisories for Syria. Syria is under a 'Do Not Travel' warning due to conflict, terrorism, and detention risk; travel insurance may be void.

Confirm your passport is clean and valid

Ensure your Italian ordinary passport is valid for at least 6 months with blank pages. Any Israeli stamp or evidence of travel to Israel means automatic refusal of entry.
