Italy to Mongolia visa requirements

No visa is required. Italian ordinary passport holders can enter Mongolia visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days under Mongolia's temporary visa-waiver scheme, currently extended through 31 December 2026. Italy is one of 34 countries covered by Mongolia's temporary visa-exemption programme, which was first introduced in 2023 and has been repeatedly extended. On 31 December 2025 the Government of Mongolia renewed the waiver for the whole of 2026, and the Italian Embassy in Ulaanbaatar has confirmed that Italian citizens may visit Mongolia for tourism purposes without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, valid until 31 December 2026. No application, fee, or pre-registration is needed for a short tourist visit; travellers simply present a valid passport at the border. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. The waiver applies to tourism only - any other purpose (work, study, long-term residence, business beyond a casual visit) still requires the appropriate visa, obtainable through Mongolia's official eVisa portal (evisa.mn) or a Mongolian diplomatic mission. Anyone intending to stay longer than 30 days must register with the Mongolia Immigration Agency in Ulaanbaatar within 7 days of arrival; overstaying without registration leads to exit delays and fines. Because the exemption is a unilateral, time-limited measure rather than a permanent treaty, travellers should re-confirm its status close to their departure date, as it is reviewed annually. Mongolia is not part of the Schengen Area, so Schengen 90/180 rules and ETIAS do not apply to this route.
