India to Slovakia visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to Slovakia. There is no visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival. ETIAS does not apply to Indian nationals because they already require a visa. Slovakia is a full member of the Schengen Area, and India is not on the EU's visa-exempt list. An Indian ordinary passport holder traveling to Slovakia for tourism must apply in advance for a uniform Schengen short-stay visa (Type C), which permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications for Slovakia are submitted in India through the official VFS Global visa application centres on behalf of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic. The standard visa fee is EUR 90 (around INR 8,200, payable in rupees at the prevailing rate), plus a VFS Global service charge. Required documents include a completed application form, a passport valid at least three months beyond the intended departure with two blank pages, biometrics (fingerprints), travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, proof of accommodation, return flight reservation, and proof of sufficient funds. Standard processing is 15 calendar days, which can extend to 30 or in some cases 45 days, so applicants should apply 3-4 weeks (and no earlier than 6 months) before travel. The EU's ETIAS travel authorisation, expected to launch around Q4 2026, applies only to visa-exempt nationalities and therefore does NOT replace the visa requirement for Indian passport holders.
