India to Romania visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Romania for tourism. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, so a Romania-issued Schengen visa (or a valid Schengen visa from another member state) is required before travel. There is no visa-on-arrival, and ETIAS does not apply to Indian nationals. Romania is a full member of the Schengen Area (since 1 January 2025). Indian citizens are not on the EU visa-exempt list, so they must obtain a Schengen Type C short-stay visa before traveling for tourism. The standard fee is EUR 80 for adults, and applications are lodged through VFS Global on behalf of the Romanian Embassy in New Delhi (or via the e-visa portal evisa.mae.ro), with biometrics typically required. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area. Normal processing is around 15 calendar days, extendable to 30-45 days. Because Indian nationals are visa-required, the upcoming ETIAS travel authorization does NOT apply to them; the Entry/Exit System (EES) does record their border crossings electronically.
