India to Pakistan visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Pakistan, and there is no leisure tourist visa available to them. Pakistan only grants Indians a Visitor (family/friends), Business, Religious Pilgrimage, Medical, or Transit visa, each requiring a sponsor or approved operator, advance clearance, and mandatory police registration on arrival. As of 2026 the route is further constrained by the post-April-2025 diplomatic breakdown: visa services are heavily suspended and the Attari-Wagah land crossing is closed. An Indian (IN) ordinary passport holder cannot travel to Pakistan visa-free and cannot obtain a general leisure tourist visa. Pakistan's visa policy for Indian nationals is highly restrictive: visas are issued only as Visitor (to meet relatives/friends or for legitimate purposes), Business (6 months, up to 3 entries with a Pakistani company sponsor), Medical, Religious Pilgrimage (a non-extendable 14-day visa issued via approved tour operators for designated shrines), or Transit (72 hours). Every application must be referred for clearance by Pakistan's Ministry of Interior, requires a notarized invitation/sponsorship from a person or entity in Pakistan, and the visa is location-specific (visitors are typically restricted to named cities). On arrival, Indian visa holders must report for police registration within 24 hours and again before moving to additional cities. Entry/exit is limited to designated posts: Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi by air, Karachi by sea, and historically the Wagah land border. The standard official visa fee for Indian nationals is nominal (Rs. 120 per entry at the High Commission counter, with older notifications citing Rs. 15), but processing is slow (commonly 30+ days) and approval is entirely at the High Commission's discretion with no appeal or refund. Crucially, since the April 2025 Pahalgam attack the bilateral situation has deteriorated sharply: India revoked Pakistani visas and suspended services, Pakistan suspended the Shimla Agreement and closed airspace to Indian carriers, and the Attari-Wagah Integrated Check Post was shut. As of mid-2026 there are no direct flights, the land border remains effectively closed to general travelers, and routine Indian-to-Pakistan visa issuance is severely curtailed. Practical leisure travel is therefore not feasible. Travelers with a genuine family, religious, business or medical purpose should apply only through the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi (or an approved operator for pilgrimage) and consult their own government's travel advisory before any attempt. Default verdict: visa-required, and in practice currently near-impossible for ordinary tourism.
