India to Malawi visa requirements
Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Malawi and must obtain a Malawi eVisa online before departure. Visa-on-arrival is NOT available to Indian citizens. The standard tourist eVisa is single-entry, costs about USD 75, permits a stay of up to 30 days, and the visa itself is valid for 90 days from issue. Apply at the official portal evisa.gov.mw at least 2-4 weeks ahead. A India (IN) ordinary passport holder traveling to Malawi (MW) for tourism requires a visa, obtained as an eVisa before travel. Malawi launched its electronic visa system on 1 November 2019 and India is classified as a "Category One" country, meaning Indian nationals must hold a visa or prior authorization before departure - there is no visa-on-arrival option for Indian passport holders (India is explicitly excluded from VoA eligibility). The standard tourist eVisa is a single-entry document permitting a maximum stay of 30 days, with the visa valid for 90 days from issuance, at a fee of approximately USD 75 (non-refundable, even if refused). Multiple-entry options exist at higher fees. Note that Malawi moved to a reciprocity-based fee structure effective 21 November 2025, so fees can vary by nationality; the USD 75 single-entry figure remains the widely cited current tourist rate. Malawi is in southern Africa and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply. The passport must have at least 6 months validity beyond the intended stay and at least 2 blank pages. Travelers should apply via the official portal evisa.gov.mw (avoid third-party markups) at least 2-4 weeks before departure to allow for processing of 5-10 business days plus any requests for additional documents.
