India to Japan visa requirements

Visa required. Indian residents can use Japan eVISA via VFS/JVAC for single-entry tourism stays up to 90 days; other purposes use a sticker visa through VFS. Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Japan because India is not on Japan's short-stay visa-exemption list. Japan's eVISA route has been available in India since 1 April 2024, but applications are submitted through Japan Visa Application Centers (VFS Global/JVAC) and the applicant receives an electronic visa instead of a passport sticker. The eVISA is only for single-entry short-term tourism stays up to 90 days; business, visiting relatives/friends, transit, work, study, and long-stay cases require the relevant paper/sticker visa route. For Indian nationals, Japan's visa fee from 1 April 2026 is INR 500 for single or multiple visas, plus the VFS service fee. Multi-entry temporary visitor visas may be available after examination for applicants meeting Japan's published Indian-national criteria.
