India to Italy visa requirements

Schengen short-stay visa required. Adult fee is EUR 90; decisions are generally reached within 15 calendar days and can take longer. Indian passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before travelling to Italy for tourism, business travel, family visits, or other short stays. Italy is part of the 29-country Schengen Area, so a uniform Schengen visa generally allows travel across the Schengen states for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The standard short-stay fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to under 12; rupee equivalents are periodically adjusted and VFS/service-provider fees or optional services are separate. Applications for Italy can be submitted to the competent Italian Embassy/Consulate or Italy Visa Application Centre when Italy is the sole destination, the main destination, or the first Schengen entry point if no main destination can be determined. Apply no earlier than 6 months before travel and well before departure: Italy says C-visa decisions are generally reached within 15 calendar days, while the EU Visa Code allows extension to 45 days in individual cases. Passports must have been issued within the previous 10 years, remain valid at least 3 months after the intended stay, and have at least 2 blank pages. The EU India visa cascade may allow India-resident applicants with two lawfully used visas in the previous 3 years to receive a 2-year multiple-entry Schengen visa, normally followed by a 5-year visa if passport validity allows. EES is fully operational since 10 April 2026 and records non-EU short-stay travellers at Schengen external borders. ETIAS is expected in Q4 2026 but applies to visa-exempt travellers, so it does not replace the Schengen visa requirement for Indians.
