India to Hungary visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen Type C short-stay visa to visit Hungary for tourism. There is no visa-free, visa-on-arrival, or e-visa channel, and ETIAS does not apply to Indian nationals. Hungary is a member of the Schengen Area, and India has no visa-waiver agreement with the EU/Schengen. An Indian ordinary passport holder must therefore obtain a Schengen Type C short-stay (tourist) visa before travelling. The visa is applied for through VFS Global in India on behalf of the Hungarian Embassy/Consulate and permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen states. The standard adult visa fee is EUR 90, plus a VFS Global service charge. Processing typically takes around 15 calendar days but can take longer in peak season, so applications should be lodged at least 15 days (and no more than 6 months) before travel. Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are required unless valid biometrics were captured for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months. Since the 2024 EU 'cascade' rules for Indian nationals, frequent travellers with a clean travel history can be issued multi-entry visas valid for 2 then 5 years. ETIAS (expected Q4 2026) does NOT apply to Indian passport holders because India is a visa-required nationality; ETIAS is only for visa-exempt travellers.
