India to Greece visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen Type C (short-stay) visa to visit Greece for tourism. Greece is in the Schengen Area, so India is not visa-exempt. Apply in advance through the Greek visa centre (VFS/GVCW) in India before travel. Greece is a full member of the Schengen Area, and India is NOT on the Schengen visa-exempt list. Therefore an Indian ordinary passport holder must obtain a Schengen Uniform (Type C) short-stay visa before traveling to Greece for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area, not Greece alone. Applications are lodged through the official Greek visa application centre in India (Global Visa Center World / VFS network), require in-person biometric enrolment (fingerprints + photo, valid 5 years), travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000, proof of accommodation, financial means, and return travel. The standard visa fee is EUR 90 for adults plus a service/logistics fee (around EUR 30), with reduced fees for children. Standard processing is up to 15 calendar/working days but can extend to 30-45 days in peak season or when consular consultation is needed; appointment slots fill quickly for summer travel, so applicants should book early. Regarding ETIAS: the European Travel Information and Authorisation System is expected to launch in late 2026 (voluntary phase Q4 2026, mandatory from 2027), but ETIAS applies ONLY to visa-EXEMPT nationalities (e.g., US, UK, Canada, Japan). Indian nationals are visa-required and will continue to need a full Schengen visa, NOT ETIAS. The verdict is therefore visa-required.
