India to Brunei visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa BEFORE traveling to Brunei. There is no visa-on-arrival, and the tourist (Short Visit) visa must be applied for in advance through the Brunei High Commission in New Delhi, with a mandatory sponsor/invitation letter from Brunei. Apply at least 2-3 weeks ahead. As of mid-2026, holders of an Indian ordinary passport are classified under Brunei's "Category B" and must obtain a visa in advance to enter Brunei Darussalam for tourism. Brunei does NOT grant visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival to Indian ordinary passport holders, and the convenient self-service eVisa offered to some nationalities is not the standard channel for Indian tourists. Instead, applications are lodged at the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in New Delhi (or via an authorized travel agent/sponsor). A distinctive Brunei rule is that nationals of India (along with Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) must have a recognized sponsor in Brunei, such as a travel agent, airline, hotel or resident, who provides an invitation letter. The Short Visit Visa is typically issued for a stay of up to 30 days, with validity around 3 months from issue, available as single entry (approx INR 1,000) or multiple entry (approx INR 2,500). Official processing is about 5 working days from submission. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months with blank pages, and all arriving travelers must also complete Brunei's electronic Arrival Card online before arrival. Only diplomatic/official passport holders from India enjoy a 14-day visa-free facility; this does not apply to ordinary tourists. Because of the advance application and sponsor requirement, travelers should plan well ahead and not expect any entry channel at the airport.
