Indonesia to Romania visa requirements

Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Romania. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, and Indonesia is on the EU's visa-required list, so the visa must be obtained before travel. Romania joined the Schengen Area in full on 1 January 2025 (land, sea and air border checks lifted) and now issues uniform Schengen Type C visas. Indonesia is a visa-required nationality (EU Annex I), so an Indonesian ordinary passport holder cannot enter Romania visa-free. You must apply for a Schengen short-stay visa before departure. The visa allows stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area, not just Romania. The standard adult fee is EUR 90, plus a VFS Global service fee (about IDR 375,000) since applications in Indonesia are submitted through VFS Global centres in Jakarta, Bali and Surabaya. Standard processing is 15 calendar days but can extend to 45 days in complex cases; apply 3-6 weeks ahead. Since 23 July 2025 a favourable "visa cascade" applies to Indonesia: travellers who have lawfully used a prior Schengen visa within three years may receive multiple-entry visas valid up to five years. ETIAS does not change this - ETIAS is only for visa-exempt nationals, so it will not apply to Indonesian passport holders, who continue to need a full Schengen visa.
