Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit Portugal (Schengen)?

Indonesian ordinary passport holders NEED a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Portugal for tourism. Indonesia is on the EU visa-required list, so ETIAS does not apply — you must apply in advance through VFS Global in Jakarta or Bali before travelling. Portugal is a member of the Schengen Area, and Indonesia is on the EU's visa-required (negative) list. An Indonesian ordinary passport holder must therefore obtain a Schengen Uniform (Type C) short-stay visa before travelling for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries. Applications for residents of Indonesia are submitted through VFS Global centres in Jakarta (Mon–Fri) and Bali (Wed & Fri) by prior appointment; the Embassy of Portugal in Jakarta directs applicants to the official portal vistos.mne.gov.pt. The standard adult visa fee is €90 plus a VFS service charge. Because Indonesia is visa-required, ETIAS (the travel authorisation launching Q4 2026) does NOT apply — ETIAS is only for visa-exempt nationalities. Since July 2025 the EU applies a favourable 'visa cascade' to Indonesian nationals: travellers who have lawfully used a prior Schengen visa within the last three years can be issued multi-entry visas valid up to five years. The Entry/Exit System (EES) began phased rollout in late 2025, so biometrics (fingerprints and facial image) are collected at the border on arrival. Always confirm exact document requirements on the official Portugal visa portal before applying.
