Indonesia to Latvia visa requirements
Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to Latvia for tourism. Latvia is a full Schengen member, and Indonesia remains on the EU visa-required list. ETIAS does not apply to Indonesian nationals. Latvia is part of the Schengen Area, so entry rules follow the common EU short-stay visa policy. Indonesia is on the EU "Annex I" list of countries whose nationals must hold a visa to enter the Schengen Area, so an Indonesian ordinary passport holder cannot travel visa-free or use a visa-on-arrival or eVisa channel. The correct route is a uniform Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa for tourism, which permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries. Because Latvia maintains only an Honorary Consulate in Jakarta, Latvia is represented by Germany for visa processing in Indonesia: applications are lodged through the VFS Global centre in Jakarta and forwarded to the German Embassy. Applicants must book an in-person appointment, submit biometrics (fingerprints, unless given to a Schengen state within the previous 5 years), and provide travel medical insurance with at least EUR 30,000 coverage, proof of accommodation, return travel, and sufficient funds. The standard adult fee is EUR 90, plus a VFS service charge. Standard processing is around 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 days. Note on 2025-2026 developments: the EU adopted more favourable "cascade" rules for Indonesians (multi-entry visas valid up to 5 years on a second qualifying application), but a visa is still required for the first trip. ETIAS (expected to launch in late 2026) is only for visa-exempt nationalities and does NOT cover Indonesia, so it does not change this verdict.
