Do France passport holders need a visa to visit LT?
No visa. As an EU citizen, a French passport holder can travel to Lithuania freely for any length of stay with just a valid passport or national ID card. ETIAS does not apply to EU citizens. France and Lithuania are both member states of the European Union and the Schengen Area. Under EU freedom of movement rules, French citizens do not need a visa to enter Lithuania and are not subject to the Schengen 90/180-day short-stay limit that applies to non-EU travelers. A French national may enter, live, work, or study in Lithuania using only a valid French passport or national identity card. The upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation (expected to go live in late 2026) applies only to visa-exempt non-EU nationals and does NOT apply to EU citizens such as the French. Likewise, the Entry/Exit System (EES) registering external Schengen border crossings does not apply to EU citizens. For stays longer than three months, French citizens are simply expected to register their residence with the Lithuanian Migration Department, but no visa or residence permit is required. In short, this is one of the simplest travel scenarios: a valid travel document is the only requirement.
