Do France passport holders need a visa to visit HR?
No visa. French citizens enjoy full EU freedom of movement and can enter Croatia with just a valid national ID card or passport, for any length of stay. ETIAS does not apply to EU citizens. France and Croatia are both members of the European Union and both belong to the Schengen Area (Croatia joined Schengen on 1 January 2023). As an EU citizen, a French ordinary passport holder has the right of free movement and does not need a visa to travel to Croatia for tourism, business, or any short visit. You may enter on presentation of either a valid French passport or a valid French national identity card. There is no fixed 90-day cap that applies to EU citizens the way it does for non-EU visitors: an EU citizen may stay up to 3 months freely, and for stays longer than 3 months you simply register your residence with the local police/administration. ETIAS, the EU travel authorisation launching in late 2026, applies only to visa-exempt non-EU nationals (e.g. US, UK, Canadian travellers) and never to EU citizens, so French travellers are exempt. Likewise, the Entry/Exit System (EES) at external Schengen borders does not register EU citizens. Because there are no internal border controls between France and Croatia within Schengen, travel is effectively the same as a domestic trip, though carrying a valid travel document remains mandatory.
