Do France passport holders need a visa to visit GL?
No visa needed. French passport holders can visit Greenland visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, but a valid passport is required (a Schengen visa does not count, as Greenland is outside the Schengen Area). France is an EU/Schengen state, and ordinary French passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to Greenland for short tourist stays of up to 90 days. Although Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, it is NOT a member of the EU and NOT part of the Schengen Area, so a Schengen visa or Schengen entry stamp is not valid for entering Greenland. Visa-exempt nationals (which includes France) may simply travel on a valid passport. In practice, flights to Greenland connect through Copenhagen (Denmark) or Reykjavik/Keflavik (Iceland), both of which are Schengen territory; as an EU citizen, a French traveler crosses these freely and is exempt from ETIAS (ETIAS applies only to visa-exempt non-EU nationals). Greenland itself is not covered by ETIAS. Recommended passport validity is at least 3 months beyond the intended stay, and authorities may ask for a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds. Any visa needed by non-exempt nationals would be issued by the Danish Immigration Service / a Danish diplomatic mission, not by a separate Greenlandic authority.
