🇫🇷FRANCE🇪🇸SPAIN (SCHENGEN)FR-ES Do France passport holders need a visa to visit Spain (Schengen)?
No visa required. France and Spain are both EU member states and part of the Schengen Area, so French citizens enjoy full freedom of movement and may enter Spain with just a valid passport or national ID card. A French ordinary passport holder needs no visa to travel to Spain for tourism or any other purpose. Both countries are EU members and part of the Schengen Area, so French nationals exercise the EU right of free movement. You may enter Spain carrying either a valid French passport or a valid national identity card (CNI) — no minimum passport validity beyond the day of travel, no entry/exit stamps, and no fee. The Schengen 90/180-day rule does NOT limit EU citizens; that rule applies only to non-EU visa-free visitors. Likewise, the new Entry/Exit System (EES, operational April 2026) and the upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation apply only to non-EU nationals — French citizens are exempt from both. There are normally no border checks at the France-Spain internal Schengen border, though Schengen states may reintroduce temporary controls in exceptional circumstances, so carry your ID document. EU citizens staying in Spain longer than 90 days (e.g. for residence, work or study) must register with the local authorities and obtain an EU registration certificate (Certificado de Registro), but this is not needed for short tourist visits.
