Germany to Timor-Leste visa requirements

German passport holders can enter Timor-Leste visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, under the EU-Timor-Leste short-stay visa waiver agreement (in force since 26 May 2015). No visa, eVisa, or visa on arrival is required for short visits. As of 2026, German (DE) ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Timor-Leste (East Timor) for tourism or short visits. This stems from the "Agreement between the European Union and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on the short-stay visa waiver," which entered into force on 26 May 2015 and grants nationals of EU member states (except Ireland) visa-free entry for a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period. The German Federal Foreign Office (Auswartiges Amt) confirms that German citizens need no visa for stays of up to 90 days within 180 days, provided no employment is undertaken. This is distinct from the standard USD 30 visa-on-arrival that applies to nationalities NOT covered by a waiver. Travelers should still carry a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry, proof of onward/return travel, and evidence of sufficient funds. Note that Timor-Leste is NOT part of the Schengen area; the 90/180 counter here applies only to time spent in Timor-Leste itself, separate from any Schengen calculation. There is no German deutsche embassy in Timor-Leste; consular matters are handled by the German Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia.
