Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit LS?

German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Lesotho for tourism. Germany is on Lesotho's visa-exemption list and is granted a free entry stamp for up to 14 days on arrival. No eVisa or pre-approval is required. As of 31 May 2026, holders of an ordinary German passport are visa-exempt for short tourist visits to Lesotho. Germany appears on Lesotho's published list of visa-free countries with a 14-day permitted stay, granted as a free entry stamp at the port of entry (Moshoeshoe I International Airport in Maseru, or land borders shared with South Africa). No visa, eVisa, or advance application is needed for this short stay. Lesotho's own eVisa portal has been suspended since 2024 and in any case is not required for German nationals on a visa-free visit. Note that most travelers reach Lesotho overland through South Africa, so a separate South African entry stamp is also obtained at the South African border. In May 2025 Lesotho's Cabinet approved a broader visa-free regime covering all EU citizens (announced at the Lesotho-EU Partnership Dialogue); until that is formally implemented and gazetted, German travelers should rely on the existing, confirmed 14-day visa-free entitlement. If you intend to stay longer than 14 days, apply to extend at the Department of Immigration in Maseru before your stamp expires, or obtain a visa in advance from a Lesotho mission. Lesotho is in southern Africa and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
