Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit GH?
German passport holders need an eVisa to enter Ghana for tourism. Ghana launched a mandatory online eVisa platform (evisa.immigration.gov.gh) on 25 May 2026, replacing the old visa-on-arrival system. Apply and pay online before you travel; there is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel for German citizens. As of 31 May 2026, German ordinary passport holders require a visa to visit Ghana, and Ghana now issues these through its national electronic visa portal. President Mahama inaugurated the eVisa platform on 25 May 2026, and it is operated by the Ghana Immigration Service together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The platform handles tourist, business, student and transit categories, and Germany is explicitly among the eligible nationalities. The previous visa-on-arrival arrangement has been discontinued, so travelers must obtain authorization online before boarding. Standard single-entry tourist eVisas are priced around USD 260 with roughly 72-96 hour processing, with paid priority and express tiers available. Note that the free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) channel applies only to ECOWAS, African Union and Caribbean nationals; German citizens use the paid eVisa, not the free ETA. Travelers should hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, proof of onward travel, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate, which is mandatory for entry to Ghana.
