Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit SE?
Canadian ordinary passport holders can travel to Sweden visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Sweden is in the Schengen Area, so no visa is required for short stays. ETIAS is not yet required as of 30 May 2026 (expected Q4 2026). Sweden is a member of the Schengen Area, and Canada is a visa-exempt country. A Canadian ordinary passport holder may enter Sweden and the wider Schengen Area without a visa for short visits (tourism or business) of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the planned date of departure from the Schengen Area and generally issued within the previous 10 years. No advance travel authorization is currently required: the EU's ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is NOT yet operational as of 30 May 2026 and is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026, after which a EUR 20 authorization will become mandatory for visa-exempt travellers. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric border-registration system, is being rolled out and may record facial image and fingerprints at the border, but it does not require a pre-application. At the border, travellers should be prepared to show onward/return tickets, proof of sufficient funds, and proof of accommodation. Stays beyond 90 days, or for work, study or residence, require an appropriate national visa or residence permit from the Swedish Migration Agency.
