Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit NO?
Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Norway for tourism — Norway is in the Schengen Area, so Canadians may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period visa-free. As of 30 May 2026, no ETIAS authorisation is required yet (launch expected Q4 2026). Norway is a Schengen Area member. Canadian citizens holding an ordinary passport are visa-exempt and may enter for tourism or short visits for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period without applying for a visa in advance. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the previous 10 years. The Entry/Exit System (EES) — automated biometric registration of non-EU travellers — began rolling out from 12 October 2025 with full implementation by April 2026, so on arrival travellers may have fingerprints and a facial image recorded. The ETIAS travel authorisation (a EUR 20 online pre-travel approval, not a visa) is expected to become mandatory only in the last quarter of 2026; until the EU confirms a firm start date and a transitional period passes, Canadians can continue to travel to Norway without it. Once ETIAS is live, Canadians will need to obtain it before boarding. The 90-day allowance is cumulative across ALL Schengen countries, not per country.
