Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit HR?
Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Croatia for tourism. You may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area. As of 30 May 2026, no ETIAS travel authorization is required yet (expected late 2026), but the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric registration is already in operation at borders. Croatia joined the Schengen area on 1 January 2023. As a visa-exempt third country, Canadian ordinary passport holders enjoy visa-free entry for short stays (tourism, business, family visits) of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This allowance is cumulative across ALL Schengen countries, not Croatia alone. The Government of Canada confirms a tourist visa is "not required for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period." Your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area. Border officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds. Two EU border-system changes are relevant: (1) the Entry/Exit System (EES) is already operational (rollout that began 12 October 2025, with full implementation targeted by April 2026), meaning Canadians register fingerprints and a facial photo at first entry; passport stamping is being phased out. (2) ETIAS, a pre-travel online authorization (EUR 20 for ages 18-70, valid 3 years), is NOT yet live as of 30 May 2026 and is expected to launch in late 2026 with a transitional grace period. Until ETIAS goes live, Canadians need only a valid passport. Travelers should beware of unofficial websites charging fees for "Croatia ETIAS/visa" that are not required today.
