Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit GH?

Canadian passport holders need a visa for Ghana. As of May 25, 2026, Ghana operates a new eVisa portal (evisa.immigration.gov.gh) for tourism. A single-entry tourist eVisa costs about USD 260 and is issued in roughly 3-5 business days; a yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory. Canada is not on Ghana's visa-exemption list (which covers ECOWAS, African Union, and certain other African and Caribbean nationals), so Canadian ordinary passport holders require a visa for a short tourist visit. On 25 May 2026 Ghana launched a nationwide electronic visa (eVisa) portal at evisa.immigration.gov.gh, which President Mahama announced as replacing the old manual/visa-on-arrival regime with an online application, payment, and digital approval system. African, ECOWAS, AU and Caribbean nationals now receive a free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), but Canadians do not qualify for that free channel and must apply and pay for a standard eVisa. The published single-entry tourist eVisa fee under normal processing (about 3-5 business days) is USD 260, with priority and express tiers costing more, and multiple-entry options priced higher. The eVisa allows a stay of up to 30-90 days per entry with a validity window of roughly 3 months. All travellers aged 9 months and over must hold a valid International Certificate of Vaccination (yellow fever / yellow card) issued at least 10 days before arrival; the physical card is checked by Port Health at Accra (Kotoka) International Airport. A passport valid for at least 6 months with a blank page, passport photos, proof of onward/return travel and accommodation are also required. Visa-on-arrival is now limited to emergency cases pre-authorised by the Ghana Immigration Service. Travellers should apply only through the official portal and well ahead of departure.
