🇨🇦CANADA🇫🇷FRANCE (SCHENGEN)CA-FR Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit France (Schengen)?
No visa needed. Canadian passport holders can enter France and the wider Schengen Area visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. As of 30 May 2026 a valid passport is all you need; the ETIAS travel authorisation is not yet operational (expected Q4 2026). France is part of the Schengen Area, and Canada is a visa-exempt country for short stays. A Canadian ordinary passport holder may travel to France for tourism, business or visiting family without a visa for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period (cumulative across all Schengen countries). The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the previous 10 years. As of 30 May 2026, no online authorisation is required — just a valid passport at the border. The EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) began a phased rollout on 12 October 2025, digitally registering non-EU travellers at the border; during the transition passports may still be stamped. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026; once live, Canadians will need to obtain an ETIAS authorisation (EUR 20, valid 3 years, exempt under 18 / over 70) before travel. Beware of unofficial websites — ETIAS is not yet operational and any site selling it now is fraudulent.

For guidance only — visa rules change with little notice. Always confirm directly with the destination's embassy or foreign ministry before booking non-refundable travel. Information here applies to ordinary (non-diplomatic) passports unless noted.
