Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit Finland?
No visa required. Canadian ordinary passport holders can enter Finland visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the Schengen short-stay rule. As of 30 May 2026, ETIAS is not yet operational, so no travel authorization is needed beyond a valid passport. Finland is part of the Schengen Area, and Canada is a Schengen visa-exempt country. A Canadian ordinary passport holder may travel to Finland for tourism without a visa, staying up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period (this limit is shared across all Schengen countries combined, not per country). The passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure date and issued within the last 10 years. As of 30 May 2026, the EU's ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in force — it is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026, with a transitional grace period afterward, so Canadians currently do not need ETIAS. However, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has been operational since 12 October 2025, meaning travelers register biometric data (fingerprints and a facial photo) at the external Schengen border on arrival; no advance action is required. Travelers should monitor official EU channels for the ETIAS go-live date, after which a quick online authorization will be required before boarding.
