🇨🇦CANADA🇪🇸SPAIN (SCHENGEN)CA-ES Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit Spain (Schengen)?
Canadian ordinary passport holders can travel to Spain visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet required as of 30 May 2026. Canada is on the EU's Schengen visa-exemption list, so a Canadian ordinary passport holder needs no visa to enter Spain for tourism, business or study for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period (counting time spent across all Schengen states). The passport should remain valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area; the Spanish consulate advises validity of at least 90 days after departure. At the border, travelers should be ready to show a return ticket, proof of accommodation, evidence of sufficient funds and, ideally, travel medical insurance. Two systems are changing the border experience: the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which began phased operation on 12 October 2025 and reaches full rollout by 10 April 2026, biometrically records non-EU entries and exits; and ETIAS, the new electronic travel authorization, which is NOT yet operational as of 30 May 2026. ETIAS is expected to launch in late 2026 and, once live, will require Canadians to obtain a EUR 20 online authorization (free for under-18s and over-70s) valid for three years before travel. Until ETIAS is officially in force, no pre-travel authorization or visa is required for short tourist stays.
