Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit Egypt?
Canadian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Egypt. The easiest route for tourism is the official online e-Visa (single entry, ~USD $30), and a visa on arrival (USD $30 cash) is also available at major airports. Canada is not on Egypt's visa-exempt list, so Canadian tourists must obtain a visa before or upon arrival. The recommended option is the electronic visa (e-Visa) applied for in advance through Egypt's official government portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg. As of 2026 the single-entry tourist e-Visa costs USD $30 (raised from $25), is valid for 3 months from approval, and permits a stay of up to 30 days; a multiple-entry e-Visa costs USD $65, valid 6 months. A visa on arrival is also available to Canadians at Cairo and other major airports for USD $30 in cash (a $5 surcharge was added on 1 March 2026 on top of the old $25 sticker). Passports must be valid at least 6 months beyond the intended departure date. A special exemption applies in the Sinai resort zone (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba): visitors arriving via those points and staying within Sinai for up to 14 days receive a free entry permission stamp, but anyone traveling beyond Sinai needs a full visa. Applying for the e-Visa in advance is strongly recommended to avoid airport queues and cash-only payment.
