Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit Brazil?
Canadian passport holders need an electronic visa (e-Visa) to enter Brazil for tourism. Visa-free travel ended on 10 April 2025. As of 10 April 2025, Brazil requires Canadian ordinary passport holders to obtain an e-Visa before travelling for tourism, business, transit or short visits — ending the visa-free arrangement that previously applied. The e-Visa is applied for entirely online through Brazil's official VFS Global portal (brazil.vfsevisa.com); in-person consular submissions are not accepted for the e-Visa. For Canadians the tourist e-Visa is issued for 5 years with multiple entries, allowing stays of up to 90 days per visit and a maximum of 180 days within any 12-month period. The fee is US$80.90, paid online by card. Most applications are approved within 48–72 hours, though processing can extend to about 10 business days in peak periods, so travellers should apply at least 2–3 weeks before departure. Brazil reinstated the requirement on the principle of reciprocity, as Brazilian citizens require visas to visit Canada. The e-Visa is digital — carry a printed copy when travelling.
