Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit BE?
Canadian passport holders can travel to Belgium visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. No visa or pre-travel authorization is required as of 30 May 2026. ETIAS is expected to launch in late 2026 but is not yet live. Belgium is part of the Schengen Area. Canadian ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt and may enter for short stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period for tourism, family visits, or business, without applying for any visa or travel authorization in advance. As of 30 May 2026, ETIAS (the European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is NOT yet operational — it is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026, after which Canadians will need to obtain it (about EUR 20, valid 3 years) before travel. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), an automated border system that records biometrics and tracks the 90/180 limit, became operational from October 2025 and fully so by April 2026; at the border you will have your fingerprints and photo registered. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and was issued within the last 10 years.
