Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit Australia?
Canadian ordinary passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA, subclass 601) before flying to Australia. It is not a stamp-on-arrival or visa-free entry — you must apply via the Australian ETA app before travel. Canada is on Australia's ETA-eligible passport list. An ordinary Canadian passport holder traveling for tourism, visiting family or short business must obtain an ETA (subclass 601) before departure. There is no Visa Application Charge, but a service fee of AUD 20 applies when applying through the official Australian ETA app. The ETA is valid for up to 12 months (or until passport expiry, whichever comes first), allows multiple entries, and permits stays of up to 3 months per visit. Applications are almost always approved within minutes, though Home Affairs advises allowing time in case of additional checks. The ETA must be linked to the biometric e-passport used for the application, and you must travel on that same passport. For stays longer than 3 months or for work/study, a different visa (such as the Visitor visa subclass 600 or a work/study visa) is required.

For guidance only — visa rules change with little notice. Always confirm directly with the destination's embassy or foreign ministry before booking non-refundable travel. Information here applies to ordinary (non-diplomatic) passports unless noted.
