Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit AT?
No visa required. Canadian ordinary passport holders can visit Austria visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period as a Schengen short stay. ETIAS is not yet required (expected Q4 2026). Austria is part of the Schengen Area, and Canada is on the EU's visa-exempt list. As of 30 May 2026, Canadian ordinary passport holders may enter Austria for tourism without a visa for stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period (counted cumulatively across all Schengen countries, not Austria alone). Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area and should have been issued within the previous 10 years. Since 12 October 2025 the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) has been operational, so on arrival you register biometric data (facial image and fingerprints) — no advance action is needed. ETIAS, the new electronic travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers, is not yet in force; the EU's official portal states it will begin operations in the last quarter of 2026, followed by a transitional period, so for travel on 30 May 2026 you do NOT need ETIAS. Once it launches it will cost EUR 7, be valid for three years, and must be obtained before travel.
