Do Brazil passport holders need a visa to visit South Africa?

No visa required. Brazilian ordinary passport holders can enter South Africa visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days. Brazil is on South Africa's visa-exemption list (in place since 1996), so holders of an ordinary Brazilian passport may travel to South Africa for tourism, short business, or family visits without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. You receive a visitor's stamp on arrival from the immigration officer; no prior application is needed. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond your intended departure (carriers and many travelers apply a six-month rule for safety) and have at least two blank pages for stamps. You should be able to show proof of onward or return travel and sufficient funds. South Africa launched an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system that became broadly operational in 2026, but it is being rolled out to visa-required nationalities; visa-exempt travelers such as Brazilians are NOT obliged to obtain an ETA and may continue to enter visa-free, with the ETA available only as an optional faster-processing tool. Note: this exemption is one-directional context-wise — although Brazil granted South Africans visa-free entry in March 2026, South Africa's pre-existing exemption for Brazilians remains unchanged and in force.

How to apply

/01
Confirm passport validity and blank pages
Ensure your ordinary Brazilian passport is valid for at least 30 days beyond your planned departure from South Africa (a six-month margin is recommended) and has at least two consecutive blank pages for entry/exit stamps.
· Before booking
/02
Book return or onward travel
Purchase a return or onward ticket out of South Africa. Immigration officers may ask for proof that you intend to leave within the 90-day visa-free period.
· Required at check-in and entry
/03
Prepare supporting documents
Carry proof of accommodation, sufficient funds for your stay, and a travel itinerary. No visa application or ETA is required for Brazilian passport holders.
· Tourism / short visit
/04
Check yellow fever requirement
If you are arriving from or have transited a yellow-fever-risk country, carry a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Direct travel from Brazil's non-risk areas generally does not require it, but Brazil has risk zones - verify your specific route.
· Health
/05
Present yourself at immigration on arrival
On landing in South Africa, present your passport, return ticket, and supporting documents to the immigration officer, who will stamp a visitor's entry valid for up to 90 days.
· At port of entry
/06
Respect the 90-day limit
Do not overstay the stamped period. If you need longer, apply for an extension at the Department of Home Affairs before your stay expires; overstaying can result in being declared undesirable.
· During stay
