Montenegro is an EU candidate country whose visa policy mirrors Schengen rules, but it is NOT part of the Schengen Area or the EU, so the EU's ETIAS travel authorization does not apply to entering Montenegro, and Montenegro's 90-day count is separate from the Schengen 90/180 count. Travelers must hold a passport valid for the duration of the stay (six months beyond intended stay is recommended), carry proof of onward/return travel, and register their presence with the local police within 24 hours of arrival - hotels and licensed accommodation do this automatically. As of 2025, Montenegro has been tightening its visa policy to align with EU standards (removing visa-free access for some nationalities such as Armenia, Uzbekistan, Egypt and Kuwait in October 2025), but Brazil's visa-free status is unaffected.
