Australia to Yemen visa requirements

Australian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Yemen. There is no visa on arrival and no eVisa; the visa must be obtained in advance from a Yemeni embassy or consulate. In practice, Yemeni missions are issuing tourist visas only on a very limited basis (largely suspended for general tourism). Australia's government advises Do Not Travel to all of Yemen. A citizen of Australia carrying an ordinary passport must hold a valid Yemeni visa before arrival; it cannot be issued at the border. Yemen does not operate an eVisa or visa-on-arrival scheme, so the visa must be obtained in advance from a Yemeni embassy or consulate, typically requiring a letter of invitation approved by Yemen's Ministry of Interior (Immigration, Passport & Naturalization Authority) or a sponsoring host. Owing to the ongoing armed conflict, many Yemeni missions are not issuing tourist visas at all, and a visa does not guarantee entry. Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Smartraveller) maintains a level 4 'Do not travel' advisory for all of Yemen, including Socotra island. Entry may be refused if the passport contains an Israeli visa or stamp, or an Egyptian/Jordanian stamp from a crossing with Israel. The Houthi authorities controlling parts of northern Yemen impose additional restrictions, including a 'mahram' (male guardian) requirement for women. Passports should have at least six months' validity. Given the security situation and limited visa issuance, this route is best treated as visa-required and effectively closed for ordinary tourism.
